Recording from Finland SpyServer

Post by bristolpirates » 20 Jan 2019 15:20

Here's a recording (IF file, same as an IQ file but only for the IF, using the Russian IF recorder plugin for SDR#) from a Finnish SpyServer - sdr://188.67.83.235:5000

A station on 91.9, just setting up their transmitter. No idea if it's legal or pirate. The amount of mucking about with modulation levels since it started playing music suggests it's not very professional at least.

The PI Code 6053 from the RDS (see second file) doesn't bring anything up on FM List. The text just displays the Artist/Track, no station ID as far as I can see.

https://mega.nz/#!zZFF3IYS!Ca86sc5AZ5NE ... eCZStp2FIc

This SpyServer only allows one user at a time, so you might have trouble getting on. I'm not entirely sure where it's based, but according to the map on https://airspy.com/directory/# it is in the west of Finland, about half way up.

Hey,

According to the received frequencies, this server is located near Haapavesi.
You should check 94.5 sometimes, I received a relay of Point Blank FM on December 22. I noticed that the same modulation problems happened on 94.5 too.

Here are some technical informations about the Point Blank relay:
Modulation -> Stereo
PI Code -> B902
PS -> POINT___ > BLANK_FM > 94,5_MHZ
Radiotext -> Point Blank FM
PTY -> Pop Music

Any link with London's pirate station on 90.2?
Probably scanning the band atm. And definitely moaning about the conditions.

Hey, the station with PI code 6053 is back right now but on 92.0 with "Believe" by Antiloop. It's definitely a pirate.

PS displays the track title only as you mentionned it:

17:04:02: Believe
17:04:06: Antiloop
17:04:09: -
17:04:12: Believe
17:04:15: Antiloop
17:04:19: -
17:04:22: Believe
17:04:25: Antiloop

By the way, the IP address of this SpyServer seems to be dynamic. Here's the new address: sdr://87.95.199.165:5000

Now online with scrolling PS "Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar", same as the RT - still on 92.0, but mute. Great track btw!
Probably scanning the band atm. And definitely moaning about the conditions.

The transmitter is still powered up tonight but it simply broadcasts a blank carrier on... 91.96.
PS displays "rds_____" with the PI code 6053.

It's weird that it keeps changing things, when I first discovered it the RDS was simply "rds" with PI of 1234.

I wonder if the owner of the SpyServer is actually the person behind the transmission, because the signal is quite strong on the SDR. It could just be a very low powered transmitter close by to the SDR and somebody messing around/testing it for fun.

I noticed that the Select Radio UK livestream was broadcast on 94.5 last night with PS displaying "SelectUK", PI code C46F.
There was a Radiotext too but I don't remember it.

Both 92 and 94.5 are running tonight. No muisc, just RDS. 94.5's RDS is very odd. Also:

The RDS are both listing a lot of PI's in the EON section here. 94.5 has 6053 in the list, but 92 doesn't appear to have the PI for 94.5 in it's list.

Here's a short IQ recording I made of 94.5 a few minutes ago: https://mega.nz/#!yy5iyYgA!qEFUagQIBYpI ... qM7vF3dZLo
By the way, you can notice that the signal isn't totally centred on 94.5.
