Change in conditions

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness »

Yesterday's evening blow-out has turned the band upside-down. Lots of Latin stations audible. Random observations include:

1380 has two religious sounding Spanish stations, dominating around 04:00 - no IDs and religious music straight across the hour. MWList log shows NSE Radio from Colombia with flute music and religion at 04:05. I hear this content quite clearly but I cannot dig out an ID.

1280 also has Spanish talk but on a lower offset than the usual WCMN Puerto Rico.

1350 Radio Buenos Aires is good at times.

Could that be WTKS on 1290.0077 peaking around 06:00? It fades perfectly on cue on the hour. (Talk show about alien life same as 1470) Then another talker comes in well for a time on 1289.999ish at 07:30.

Lively Spanish pops on 680.0001 with good peaks at 06:50.

1470 has two North Americans on unusual offset. One with a discussion about alien life.Approx. offsets are .9906 and .9966.

There were also two very noticeable peaks in conditions overnight. One around 05:45, the second around 07:30.

Maybe something different was lurking on the band. I can't ID anything for definite following this quick check and time is once again against me. Some decent signals too.

I'm beveraging it over the weekend but the current double whammy of storms (solar-terrestrial and meterorological) will no doubt conspire against any serious DXing. I will probably be relying on observations here and on MWList.

Good DX all!

I haven't had a good check, but just wasted a good 20 minutes trying to ID 1600.........WUNR !

I never realised they had a "Irish Hour" and just didn't for a minute thing a station playing Irish music with English announcements could be WUNR !

You live and learn.

Thanks David. Maybe WSAN was what I was hearing on 1470. I need a better ID on that before I log it. I will check later. Right now I am unplugging and taking the gear over to the farm.

Later!

Thank you Paul.

This is what I had at that time.

This recording starts at 04:00 and 40 seconds. Difficult to pick out what she is saying but that jingle might hopefully give it away. Don't worry if you don't have the recording.

I think I have WSAN again but at 07:00. Still too weak to be sure.

Excellent! No problem at all hearing that now. THANK YOU!

It's good that you made a recording once again. I really appreciate this. I feel a little awkward making posts like this sometimes. I know some DXers would find it a little 'off' that I can't ID stations by myself, so I post a recording in the hope that somebody can ID it for me. But I like to do the same for other DXers too. It's what a great community is all about, helping each other and we have such a community here.

Thank you again Paul.

Also, WSAN this morning. At last! Been hearing this for the lat few days around 06-07:00 but just not confident in logging it with the pathetically weak signals it's been giving. Then this morning ....

Still very weak but a definite ID. A personal first!
