Radio 24/7 was a difficult construction, it is public service radio owned by a joint-venture out of 70% Berlingske (BT) and 30% People Group, but partly paid with financial support from governmental owned money (indirect tax), not out of the radio tax ("medielicens") itself.
The reasons are hard to explain. It is more a political decision that the business for FM-4 frequencies in future times should be ran from Jutland=Jylland. At least 70 percent of the staff and techical equipment would have been moved to another place. The official intention was to strengthen the economy of the countryside. Furthermore, there were different expectations regarding investments for the development of the radio station (DAB, online) and more podcasting.
The primary reason is that the government and the Danish People's Party have decided that the radio channel's main editorial office must be located at least 110 kilometers from Copenhagen.
And it is a decision that, according to Berlingske Media, will make Radio24syv both more expensive and worse.
In early spring, 2019 the current owners Berlingske and People have decided not to go for a renewal of the 24syv licence on FM-4 network frequencies because the future of the employees is in the shadows.
It was, however, planned to continue digital-only on DAB and online. For DAB, the intention was to start in 2020 on a new frequency or network. But these days, this seems rather impossible to go digital, as after they stopped on FM, the channel would be forced by law to hold a two months minimum pause / stop on DAB before they would be able to come back. Radio 24syv now rather wants to stop completely instead of wasting 60 days waiting to continue on DAB.
Radio24syv pulls the plug if the channel needs to shut down for two months before it can open as a new DAB channel.
It provides a span of two months when the radio channel is not allowed to broadcast radio.
It will be difficult to continue as a radio channel if the transmission permission for the new DAB channel is not changed.
If we have to close for two months, we will stand and lack salaries for employees and money for rent and operations during the period. At the same time, it is completely hopeless in relation to the listeners, who must already get used to the fact that we are moving over to the DAB channel. There we will lose many listeners. We can't bear to shut down for two months either.
It simply makes no sense for such a break from our side. We cannot help paying salaries to our employees for two months, and we do not have to start all over again until January, because we have had to shut it all down.

What makes it so ironic, is the fact, that politicians have once forced public service state radio DR by decision to leave the FM-4 frequency network while Radio 24syv was installed by political law back in 2010. Nowadays, it is 24-7 which is forced to shut down by political interests, again.
The station had recently more than 500.000 listeners per week.
