Alaska Now!

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 19 Nov 2019 21:50

Just had a tip from MW DX ace Barry Davies to say that KBRW Barrow 680 is coming through.

I just swung my flag to the overnight position (NNW) and I have a weak KBRW here as I type. Toronto/Boston is/are also there.

Good DX!

... and again this evening with almost fair levels.

For the first time this season I have seen the Solar wind speed drop below "300" in the Jaguar BB applet. Are we to expect better conditions overnight? Time will tell.

Haha. ;) I always used to think the same when you posted. But you also posted about the blow-outs. Yes, I agree 100%. Posting about good conditions usually kills it. I won't repeat what the forecasts say for the next few days. It looks like things are gong to ...... well ..... let's see what happens.

Great signal from 1420 WOC this morning, IDing as KWQC at times - their TV station. 1280 dominated by WNAM. What's happening your way? Should be some good stuff there, surely?

Certainly is. I am grateful for that here, but Asia has probably done now for the season. It has always tapered off come November/December. I don't know why that should be.

We have quiet conditions again Klaus. Asia is poor, but the transatlantic path is improving.

I can barely hear KBRW at the moment but the carrier is there. It should improve here over the next hour+.

Good DX!

I see the carrier of KFBX Fairbanks on 970. If I imagine hard enough I think I can hear audio, lol. Needs to be better than this before I can log it. No web stream to check against though.

Not sure whether this is still of any use, but Alaska has been in here since 20:00 and still is! Playing a selection of oldies as per their web stream. Peaks are only weak but it's clearer than the last few days.

680 KBRW - now a regular catch! Did I really just type that? I'm still pinching myself.

Lovely writing John, DX literature. I was listening too on the 5th, heard tlk on 680 just after 2200, it wasn't English . Heard the same on the webstream, than fem ann on the radio, yes as well on the webstream of KBRW a few seconds later. Music starts on the radio, signal fades out. the webstream starts with Dr Hook. But the radiosignal has faded too deep to ID the song.

If you're getting music (oldies) on 680 in the middle of the evening, there's little doubt that you've got KBRW. CFTR and WRKO are talkers.

The language you sometimes hear on KBRW will be Eskimo.

Reminiscing again, I remember how CFTR was a rarity back in the 80s.

Worth checking 850 for KICY and 1230 for CFFB when this northerly path is open.
