Re: TA FM NOW **********

John's big Israeli opening was insane. Nick has bagged some bloody nice ones from down that way two, like Syria. I was talking to my GF today about it all, what a strange brilliant hobby we have.

Re: TA FM NOW **********

Interesting. That's less than the distance from here to Cyprus, e.g. BFBS Cyprus from Dhekelia is 3320 km from Whitchurch. Yeah but think about the number of times Dxers in Britain have heard the middle east in the last decade and then contrast with the rarity of a TA signal. That north atlantic pa...

Re: TA FM NOW **********

Thanks for all the kind regards guys. Someone asked is my location better for this kind of thing, well, yes being so close to the Atlantic but I also have to put up with multiple BBC and RTE outlets plus local stations and I'm in the bottom of a valley. My good directions are south through west. The...

Re: TA FM NOW **********

Thanks Chris and TIm. Tim, I posted news of this on the WTFDA facebook page but no one on the other side had anything as far as I know. Maybe it's still viewed as such an unlikely oddity (which it is, 15 minute opening after nine years of silence from NA) that the idea of pointing the antenna the "w...

Re: TA FM NOW **********

I don't think there is anything else on the recordings, but I'll need to go over them in detail. I reckon it was St. Johns, Newfoundland. Nothing noted on the other freqs from Montreal / Gaspe at the bottom of the band. An hour earlier and this could have gone nuts. The reception was about 1/2 hour ...

Re: ALG Chaine 2 89.6 question

No way of knowing for sure. So another one that gets away. It was odd that it popped up on it's own when everything else had gone though. it was very strong

Re: CNR 87.7 now

I don't recall seeing any loggings of Baquèira-Beret in the past. I've had it in the past but very rarely, usually its RAC1 from Barcelona which is the blowtorch from Catalonia on that freq. At my location there's a difference of 43 degrees between CAT and CNR. Openings to those areas usually offer...

Re: ALG Chaine 2 89.6 question

Actually it isn't obvious which one it was. If it was I wouldn't have asked. The signal was very strong, no distortion and no sign of RDS. Neither RDS spy or the Elad software showed any sign of RDS trying to form.

ALG Chaine 2 89.6 question

Can anyone confirm for sure that the Chaine 2 transmitter from Tessala Algeria on 89.6 has rds? I noted a Chaine 2 outlet on that freq last night just before 9 pm when everything else had faded out which was very strong with no RDS. The other tx on here is Illizi at 3349 km from here. It would be ni...

Re: CNR 87.7 now

I checked the beam heading several times, and it was accompanied by the usual stuff from the south west. This transmitter is a regular here every summer. It often fades up slow and hangs around for ages making me think that it's reception is a mixture of Sp-E and tropo. Nothing else was logged east ...
