A South American Morning

The disturbed conditions have given rise to plenty of South Americans this morning. 1380 is always a favourite channel and there were several Spanish stations there throughout the morning. It was very nice of them all to fade at the top of each hour. I think I have Paraguay on 920. Same problem ther...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020

More evidence that I don't read through every post, nor do I remember much. Getting worse. I'm not going to post anything anymore. It always ends some way like this.

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020

I know not everybody likes the idea of claiming a 'UK First' and 'Personal First' is preferred by some, but it's nice to know that this might be the case and it's something of an achievement. I think it's fair to say that you have the catches of the season this year at least. Very well done indeed! ...

Re: SPAIN MW 918kHz & 1134 kHz OFF

It's interesting that I have not received South Korea on 1134 this season. At least, I don't think I have. There was a time signal tone which could have belonged to HLKC, but if it was them then they have not been putting out as much signal as last season. Other South Koreans have been booming in so...

Wow! Many congratulations David! What a catch!

Is this the first time Georgia has been received on band 2 in the UK?

Re: 980 - Sports Talk

I just checked my files from the 22nd and I have an ESPN Radio ID at exactly 05:59:53, which almost certainly points to WTEM. If not them then it would have to be KSPZ Ammon ID, which I very much doubt, especially at 1kW. What is also interesting is a country music station which fades in shortly bef...

Brazil 920 at 05:46

After a couple of nights away from MW, I returned to very disturbed conditions following the previous 24 hours worth of auroral activity. Asia was knocked out completely yesterday evening, apart from the Chinese giants on 1098, 1377 and 1521. Did anybody get the Brazilian on 919.9984 around 05:46 th...

Re: 980 - Sports Talk

I didn't know either! Maybe 980 will open up to something interesting. 981 is a bit of a pest here but it sounds like it's not as bad as it is for you. Back in the 80s, the Troy NY station would appear occasionally. I think it was WTRY back then. It's now WOFX and it may be the most likely option. A...

SDR Files on archive.org

After suggesting the use of archive.org for storing SDR files, I created an account and uploaded a few files. I don't know if I am being a little naive but it seemed like the kind of location which might welcome something like this as it creates a permanent snapshot of broadcasting on a particular d...

Re: sweden tropo now

I had to go to Norwich yesterday afternoon and stopped on the way, just outside Wymondham. This was a random stop, not on a hill as this was not a radio trip. My partner was with me and so only a quick tune was possible while we stopped briefly for a sandwich in the car. On her Ford Galaxy car radio...

Re: Mystery jingle on several frequencies ...

Nailed it Paul. Thank you.

Also heard here this morning on 1380 WSYB (Fox The Source). A couple of the members at RealDX say this has also been used on ESPN radio and ESPN TV.

Personal first and possible UK first.

This was from the 18th. Having to play catch-up for the moment.

Thanks to Hiroyuki Okamura and Guido Schotmans at RealDX for sporring the identification "Kochira ha Sanyou Hoso Desu" at 3 seconds into the recording.

Good Asiatic Conditions: 18-09-20

Probably the best I have heard so far, with 20:00 and 21:00 being particularly good. Lots of time signals on interesting frequencies, some with IDs. One or two frequencies producing Oriental audio where I have ever heard it before, let alone just their time signals. Regular Asiatics like 972 HLCA an...

I am not 100% sure what is being said here but this is a station, perhaps of interest, IDing at 03:00 this morning and mixing with PITA WDMC. I would appreciate anybody listening and telling me what they hear.

Re: SPAIN MW 918kHz & 1134 kHz OFF

In here too, not strong but with a clear ID before the time pips. Yesterday evening was hopeless for Asia but 21:00 did see an improvement in conditions. I think the run of quiet A indices we have had this week has not been good for Asia. I have been trying to understand what works best for the far ...

Re: sweden tropo now

I was told about my mistake in the chat room. I heard a promo for a programme on Lyric FM. Without checking lists, I assumed it had to be Lyric FM. It now looks like it was RTE 1 with a promo for Lyric FM. My confusion between 87.8, 97.8 - (and even 107.8!!) - yes, I know it's not good. It is just m...
