Alaska Now!

Just had a tip from MW DX ace Barry Davies to say that KBRW Barrow 680 is coming through.

I just swung my flag to the overnight position (NNW) and I have a weak KBRW here as I type. Toronto/Boston is/are also there.

Good DX!

Re: west coast now

KOMO is in Seattle WA (Washington state) on 1000 kHz.

I have a talk station on from 06:45 this morning. It doesn't sound like sports so I wonder if it's KOMO. Far too weak for the 999 splatter. Nothing recorded before this as my system went down for most of the night.

Re: 1380 - Tough call

That *is* a tricky one. It sounds like WBRE / WVRE / WVRA to my ears. Closest call on 1380 would be WELE Ormond Beach FL but they are sports.

I suspect they are both Radyo La Verdad.

Sorry for lateness - not always by the computer lately and also spending weekends away. OK, I miss some posts too.

Re: 560 - WQAM

Well done Simon! None of that here. Just a splattery mess. There were two stations on 560 just after 05:00 but neither were strong enough to push through.

It's the psu alright. No replacement, so just enough time to post this and switch off before the top of the hour!

Re: 1380 .....

It was indeed KOTA I was referring to, but I didn't want to shout too loudly. That would be one heck of a catch. A "Sheigra catch" as I would have said at one time. But what other CBS News talk station would we hear on 1380 and on their correct offset of 1379.9991? This morning I heard what might so...

Re: QRN From Router

This is going to be difficult for me to admit .... but I didn't think of that.  Of course, I simply assumed it had a 240v input.   I will see if I have something suitable in my collection tomorrow.

1380 .....

Has anybody checked 1380 overnight? There's a CBS News station slightly lower in offset than CKPC. IS it .... ? Could it be .... ? I am struggling to find an ID, but this would be a great catch if it's what I think it is.

Re: 1500 - Possible KSTP

It would be the amplified loop. I don't have an amplifier at the moment after the transistor blew. My gain is set to maximum. I agree about the X-RAY facility. As things are using the standard setting, red means audible. Anything yellow is well down under my noise floor - unless it's a very quiet fr...

Re: 1500 - Possible KSTP

Plus that brief blackout on the right most carrier.

I presume you have your waterfall gain set to max? If so, your band is obviously very much quieter than mine.

QRN From Router

Suddenly ... It's amazing! A beautifully, clean, quiet band! Well, almost. It's not bad, overall. This afternoon I looked into the noise levels which have been gradually increasing across the middle, and sometimes across the top of the medium wave band here. My Sky router has never been a problem re...

Re: 1500 - Possible KSTP

Nothing ID'd here other than WFED. There were other carriers and some were just about reaching audio level. A quick screen grab attached - not calibrated.

I think I hear Radyo La Verdad at 21 seconds. I have occasionally heard English words mixed in with Philippino.

Chinese 927

https://app.box.com/s/qg0lu6vz2v262qx76g3lzw0o2c8gj1dv Weak and noisy. Heard at 21:00. A Chinese woman can be heard on the hour and immediately prior to time pips of I guess a different Chinese station. Those pips sound too weak to be coming from the same station. Immediately after the pips I hear a...

A decent enough signal. Interesting music too. Broken only for a different sounding Beijing time signal.

As I don't currently have a mobile phone, I cannot Shazam the music, but I'm sure it's clear enough to be recognised.

Re: DX Tip: 1510 XEPBGR Guadalajara

Hi Simon. I calibrated against Merseyside 1484, but I noticed that they were moving slightly. I don't know if the transmitter had become unstable or if it was (more likely) something odd happening at this end. So I checked Merseyside over a period of time and found the most stable period, then zeroe...
