Re: 2019 Es Season winding down

My perspective on this season: A very poor one overall, as poor as 2014 which in itself was the worst of the lot since I became active on Band 2 in 2013. This is borne out by the chart on MMMoVHF ( https://www.mmmonvhf.de/es/eval/all_season_progress.png?r=529363430 ) which tracks the cumulative hour...

Re: Deciphering FT8

Some more examples: 103545 -3 0.4 835 ~ 4Z1UF EA5IAG IM97 Here, a Spanish station, EA5IAG in grid IM97 is calling 4Z1UF in Israel. 103445 -13 0.2 1573 ~ IU8JCQ EA5GPQ +07 In this one, EA5GPQ is giving IU8JCQ a signal report of +7db. That is pretty strong, most reports are in minus figures and those ...

Re: Deciphering FT8

Hi Simon, First decode - yes, it is IV3IYL from Italy calling CQ - his grid is JN65 in NE Italy. Second decode - EA4ZM is sending his final transmission to HB9ETN. I'm not sure why it says "where?" at the end - the program should know the transmissions are from Italy and Spain respectively. I use JT...

Tropo N Germany and Denmark

As subject.

Will be interesting to see what comes later. This morning Poland and Czech Republic came in on 2m, to add to Demnark and Sweden on that band last night.

FM DX – How to get the best out of SDR Console. This guide explains how best to get the best out of SDR Console for FM DX, utilising the multiple receiver and RDS Logging functions. I will probably tweak this post over time following feedback or if I get any further ideas. You need to be running Ve...

ES Italy

First day back at work after 2 whole weeks off (and three Band 2 openings in 16 days, one of which lasted 90 seconds)

And guess what?? Of course.... Band 2 just opening!

Italy at the moment, quite weak with little RDS, but this could explode into soup shortly.

Re: No Es-Season in Germany in 2019!

The lack of openings to the East is stark. I have yet to log a single Es signal from north of the 50 degree latitude line, and here we are in mid-June.

Es Log 12th June 2019

At least an opening of some duration! Today opened to Iberia/N Africa on and off through the morning - the longest duration opening here since 28th May. Signals mostly very weak, and confined to the lowest parts of the band with not too many signals making it to RDS level - the opening dribbled on f...

Re: No Es-Season in Germany in 2019!

I feel your pain. At a time when I am better equipped software wise than ever, nature chooses this year to produce a complete dud. Also, so many openings 40 miles or so away produce nothing here. I hope things will pick up, but now it's mid-June, things rarely get better from here in any season. Thi...

Es log 10th June 2019

After 8 completely blank days here at what is supposed to be the peak of the season, and several days of watching Es happening further south and east, at last an opening. About 2 mins worth, to Albania and Croatia, but it's something, I guess. Map and logs: https://www.fmlist.org/fm_logmap.php?datum...

Re: E skip tips?

don't go too "budget" on a Windows PC.. you will need a reasonable amount of grunt to do SDR.
I'd go with an i5 chip, minimum.
