Re: vy. poor ES season so far

nothing here again today, once more. ...... this is a real BAD season going to waste. it is already over in Germany. another poor season`s dead and gone. If you are not already doing it you need to run an SDR receiver such as an SDRPlay or Airspy mini and record part of the band. Then use the Visua...

Re: Front-end Overload / Ghost images on SDRplay RSP2pro

Hi Jake, My experience of the phaser is that it has to be adjusted individually for every frequency - so in my opinion you could well be better off spending the money on an 'old' tuner and modifying it for DX use. My other suggestion is that you mount your aerial horizontally as the directivity and ...

Re: Noise. Everybody's Worst Enemy.

And just to add to the depressing situation. I took my Tecsun 380 outside to check the background noise level just outside the bottom of the band. The signal meter read 11 dBf at the back door and 9 dB at the bottom of the garden next to the aerial mast. I know for a fact that back in 2014-15 when I...

Re: Noise. Everybody's Worst Enemy.

Back in the autumn of 1987 when I was operating on HF we had the "it's not a hurricane" which knocked out the power for a few hours. I ran my Icom 740 on a car battery, 'cos I wasn't paying £185 for a PSU. So I fired it up to see what was going on - the lack of noise on the HF bands was am...

Re: Front-end Overload / Ghost images on SDRplay RSP2pro

Hi, I would consider the RX-888 which would work with SDR-console software. It has a 16 bit ADC but uses the R820D chip for VHF - so you still 'only' get 8 MHz bandwidth, but should be much less prone to overload. Price from China is around £135-£145 then you will have to add VAT on top and possibly...

Re: Going to St Margaret's Bay Holiday Park in East Kent Next week what FM signals to look out for?

wtf was that on 107.0? (the groaning guy) looks like the location had great potential for a serious bandscan Not if you are trying to DX through the QRM! I am just far enough from the coast and just far enough from London not to be overwhelmed by Belgian and French coastal stations or London pirate...

It looks like I've managed 62 DXCC 'countries' from your received list - plus Gibraltar, Andorra, Faroe Islands and Western Sahara - making 66 in total. I hadn't realised it was that many! The latest additions were Northern Ireland and Eire on 13 May 2021 with very short hop Sporadic E The exotic do...

Re: Another Yagi for Band 2

Looks great David. The figures look great too. From what I can see, you've got it nice and high and clear of obstructions too, which is something I have very recently done here with my antennas - they were too close to the house and receiving a lot of noise. I ought to will write about this myself ...

Project complete! 7 ele yagi twin reflector.jpg (And yes - it looks like I've not seated the aerial boom squarely in the mounting bracket - I'll sort that when I've got over this day's physical exertion :) ) Detail pictures of the dipole box and the joint between the reflector boom and the main boom...

Unidentified Russian? station

Received on 91.7 MHz at 1100 UTC and producing a pi code of 7210 - which should be Russia. As it is on the hour it has the station jingle and voice id -which sounds like 'Apos'. Belarus was received on 92.7, 93.8, and 96.2 from Minsk at the same time. https://app.box.com/s/1wts29pixtlqlnuuhi2bl5ojgb...

Re: Superb Scandinavian Tropo!

What a difference 10 km makes! Hepburn's forecast showed an intense area of enhancement in the North Sea which was just outside my path to Scandinavia. As I posted elsewhere the only DX I got was from Denmark on a bearing of 40 deg. 10 km to the west - at the same time - a Dxer in Rainham Kent logge...

Re: Tropo Alert > D & DNK

In north Kent I had very strong signals from Holstebro and Alborg in Denmark during the late evening of the 30th , but nothing else. Rangstrup my usual beacon station on 97.2 was absent - and as for German stations they must have suffered a nationwide power outage. The 98.1 and 98.5 frequencies were...

Re: UNID 87.9MHz "Energie"

on the bottom of FM band double-hop is possible, but the music format is not matching to the NRJ brand. But the station ID is definitely "Energie" said by a man, followed by "Energie" said by a woman. It is possible the music is not from the same station as the announcement as t...

UNID 87.9MHz "Energie"

Received on 13 May 2021 at 17:00 UTC on 87.9 There is a clear ID - but what language is the preceding speech and song in? Is it Russian or Ukrainian, or something else. Neither RUS or UKR show up on "myFM" for logging, but on "FMList" the program "NRJ" is listed on 87.9...

Here is my "log" of reception around mid-day local time. 25May2021_1100UTC_overload.jpg There is not much chance of resolving anything from that mess! All I got was: 96.8 PI: 5220 97.5 PI: 5474 99.2 PI: 5475 fortunately the intense activity was only for a limited period - from 6:30 am to a...

The late night opening started around 21:30 UTC at my QTH and lasted until about 01:15 UTC. The Es then re-started at around 04:15 and is still going strong reaching to the top of the band. It has favoured the South-East with Italy, Romania and Greece received. The scan log indicates North Africa ha...

Re: BIG Es opening in the UK with E F I ALG TUN & now POR

I have run the I/Q recordings covering the period 0930 to 1205 UTC which between them cover the whole of the band, but not continuously. I have captured around 120 French stations, the vast majority in the Pyrenees - Carcassonne - Marseilles area with many being logged for the first time. Interestin...

Re: BIG Es opening in the UK with E F I ALG TUN & now POR

I'm 'cheating' by playing back the recordings on SDR Console - 10 frequencies at a time, using a Macro to step thru the blocks of frequencies. Lots of French stations around 1000km which I've not picked up before. It really is the only way I'm going to process the files - I've no idea when I'll be a...

Re: SpE 19-05-2021

It is going crazy here - started off at 07:50 UTC or thereabouts. Coverage is from Italy through to Spain with N. Africa coming through strongly. Malta has made yet another appearance. Signals all the way to the top of the band and a period where it was overloading in the bottom half of the band. An...
